Inaugural Elevate Mentor Recognition Awards 2021/2022

The OSl, SS&D and DCU would like to officially congratulate and acknowledge the volunteer students who took part in Elevate DCU Peer Mentoring for the current academic year. The occasion was marked at the Elevate Mentor Recognition Awards 2021/2022 on Wednesday 2nd March 2022. Students, academics, and support staff of DCU joined President Daire Keogh in congratulating the volunteer mentors for their completion of the Elevate programme.

Elevate piloted in the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Common Entry into Engineering, recruiting 17 student mentors who supported approximately 300 first year DCU students this year. The mentors were responsible for communicating and interacting with first years each week, passing on valuable information about student support and services, and helping first years every step of the way while they navigated university life. President Daire Keogh noted in his speech to the volunteers, their importance in connecting 1st years with the DCU student community, offering guidance, a listening ear and practical support to those involved. He thanked the volunteers for contributing to DCU's mission to 'transform lives and societies'.

Peer Mentor Programme Coordinator, Nicole Jordan, congratulated the students for the time and effort they committed to the programme throughout the year and spoke of expanding Elevate for the 2022/2023 year. Nicole also announced that the School of Business, Social Sciences and Cultural Innovation, Bachelor of Civil Law (law and society), Actuarial Mathematics, and Common Entry into Actuarial and Financial Mathematics have all welcomed the development and inclusion of Elevate into their courses. An exciting development for the growth of the programme within DCU.

Finally, in line with the expansion, Elevate is currently recruiting volunteer students from all 14 courses for September 2022. If you would like to contribute as a peer mentor while in DCU, fill in the application form in this link. Queries are welcomed and can be directed to elevate@dcu.ie
