Accessibility Week

This week DCUSU and the Teaching Enhancement Unit (TEU) will launch Accessibility Awareness Week from the 16th of January to the 20th of January. The aim of this week is to raise awareness about the accessibility needs of those with disabilities and to create accessible and safe events for students.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday 17th: Formal launch for Accessibility Awareness Week by President Daire Keogh

  • Wednesday 18th: Dine in the Dark, Restaurant All Hallows Campus, 1pm

    • Dine in the Dark is a fun, immersive experience for students to get a glimpse of what it is like living with sight loss. This novel event has proven to be a big hit across the world  - both in terms of enjoyment and education. Attendees will be blindfolded while enjoying a free two-course lunch at the All Hallows campus restaurant.

    • Register here

  • Thursday 19th: Silent Disco, The Hive, 7pm till late

    • For many students with sensory issues, going for drinks or going for a dance in Nubar and other night clubs is not possible, due to the loud noises that affect their disability. DCUSU wants to cater for those with sensory issues by introducing a silent disco. Students are able to control the volume on the headphones and dance the night away in a quiet and safe space in the HIVE. While drinks are available at the event, students are not under pressure to buy drinks in order to enjoy the space.

  • Friday 20th: Irish Sign Language Taster Classes

All events hosted this week are free to attend. Please register for tickets. Use the hashtag #A11Y throughout the week.
